Relyence FMEA Monitoring and System Response (FMEA-MSR)

The most recently introduced FMEA Standard is the AIAG & VDA Failure Mode and Effects Analysis - FMEA Handbook. This handbook is similar to the SAE J1729 and AIAG standards. It introduces a new FMEA template, the FMEA-MSR (Monitoring and System Response) Worksheet, as well as the FMEA AP, or Action Priority rating method. The AP provides a priority level  based on Severity, Occurrence, and Detection values. While the RPN (Risk Priority Number), defined in other standards, is a risk assessment value based on Severity x Occurrence x Detection, AP was developed in order to give more emphasis to Severity first, then Occurrence, and then Detection. For more information about AP, see the FMEA AP (Action Priority) topic.

A Monitoring and System Response Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, or FMEA-MSR, is an organized approach used to identify and evaluate the potential failures of a product while in use by a customer. FMEA-MSRs are a specific application of a generic FMEA evaluation. FMEA-MSRs supplement DFMEAs and consider how a product will fail when in use by the customer. The intent of FMEA-MSRs is to keep products safe and ensure that a product remains in compliance with regulations (such as environmental statutes).

The following topics provide details about FMEA-MSRs in Relyence:

Note: By default, FMEA-MSR is not enabled by default in all Analyses. If you have an Analysis where you do not have the FMEA-MSR option in the Sidebar, see the Adding a FMEA-MSR Worksheet to an Analysis section in the Performing FMEA-MSR topic.
